A painting of a sunrise over a field.

During a meeting to discuss a painting for their home, this couple told me they love the morning light on Cross Street in Topsfield.  They told me that they walk on the hilly terrain in the early morning light to experience the serenity of this special place before the day gets underway.

So, I started riding my bike up the hill to Cross Street every morning at sunrise to discover for myself what it is that made this place so special. I knew when I reached the top of the hill this one morning, that I had the found what I was looking for.

On that mid-summer day, the sky went from gold to red to periwinkle to violet. The mist rose up from the fields into a smoky gray. And the early morning sunlight was kissing the treetops to reveal a lime green next to a deep maroon. It was like the creation of the first day. They love the results of this painting as much as I do and were happy to let me have it professionally photographed in its forever home.

Creating a commissioned painting for a designated space brings me into a special relationship with the collector where we work closely to ensure the results are even better than what they expected.

This is one reason I enjoy working on a commission basis. It brings me closer to the collector and creates a relationship that last long after the project is completed

From inspiration to finished product., this video shares the story of the genesis of my painting, Sunrise, Cross Street.

As the beauty in this landscape attests, I love living in New England and being surrounded by an abundance of gorgeous natural scenery. The ancient hills, salty air (I live only a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean), and ivy colored greenery, has captivated artists and poets alike.

As an artist, I rely on nature as a source of inspiration for  all of my pieces, whether it be land, sea. garden, rocky terrain, or sky.

I hope you experience the peace and calm of this morning sunrise as I felt it on my bike ride up this ancient hill.

“ Meg’s ability to capture the beauty of this sunrise location overwhelmed me. The joyful and calm feelings it evokes can’t be overstated. Masterful.”
