| Here’s an understatement: winter 2026 been cold and snowy. I spent the first Saturday in February snowshoeing with my daughter. For three hours. In -6 degrees windchill. In Vermont. Thank you for the feels. I decided to immortalize this throwback-to-winters-past when we built snow forts and jumped into 6 foot snowbanks by creating five winter landscape paintings. To capture the feel of the season, I painted the moonrise over a grove of pine trees that reminded me of cross-country ski trails. I painted the weak winter light at daybreak as the sun tried to break through the frosty air. I painted tress after a storm when the snow was still clinging to the branches. I focused on the whites of the snow against the chocolate-colored tree bark. One of my favorite subjects was the sunlight that glistened off of icicle-caked evergreen branches, as if the ice was dancing in the storm. Frosty air, chilly afternoons, icy cold moonlight, and snow laden branches; what is your favorite winter memory from the winter of 2026? The set of five paintings is available in my gallery. Watch the video I made of how I chose each of the images. Here’s to our lasting memory from the winter of 2026. And remember in the immortal words of June Christie, winter has spring up her sleeve. |
| Winter landscape one, moonrise over a grove of pine trees. This painting reminds me of cross-country ski trials so common in New England. Can you see your breath when you look at this painting? | Winter landscape two, Impressionism shadows. The weak winter light at daybreak as the sun tries to break through the frosty air. Does this painting remind you of the Impressionism? Impressionists loved to paint outdoors in the winter. | Winter landscape three, snowy mulberry bush. The tress after a storm as the snow still clings to the branches. Can you feel the weak winter sun shining on the snowy branches? |
Winter landscape four, snow laden tree branches . . . and on the whites of the snow against the bark of the trees. Winter landscape five, dance of the snow ferries. The icicle caked branches are bending over from the weight of the snow, as if they are dancing in the storm. |
| I made a video of the snowy landscape that inspired the paintings. |
