I love being at the ocean’s edge and listening to the sound of the crashing waves. The salty air, sea breeze, and sounds of children playing are my favorite memories. My aim was to capture this feeling into a small sculpture where I can visit the ocean all year long.
The idea for making a glass-like, ocean wave-inspired sculpture took me over three years to perfect. The aqua color is pigmented abaca, the strongest fiber in the world and identified by the United Nations as a future fiber due to its organic quality and sustainability. I mixed the abaca into epoxy, and I then twisted it into a shape reminiscent of ocean waves to create a maintenance-free substrate.
How to display:
This original work of art will not fade or discolor when displayed in indirect sunlight. The surface is coated with an acid-free covering so it may be displayed near a water source (coffee centers and bathrooms seem to be popular places to display my work these days). If the artwork gets damp, it will dry without warping.
