Madam Butterfly, 20 20 x 2 inches. White floater frame.

$1,250.00

Madam Butterfly is the enduring tale of a tragic love story between a young Japanese girl called Cio Cio San and an American naval officer, Pinkerton. After marrying each other, San is soon abandoned by Pinkerton, but stays hopeful waiting for his return.

This story, made into an opera, was made famous by the colorful silk costumes worn by the dancers: pinks, blue, yellow, orange, and lime green, much like a real butterfly-full of color and grace, and ready to fly away into the wind.

The story of Madam Butterfly inspired me as I worked on this painting, my painting tools flying just above the surface of the canvas in a rhythmic movement much like the dancers themselves. Pair with Asters in the Rain
