On the Rocks with a Twist, epoxy and abaca sculpture, 25 x 19 x 3 inches.

$935.00

I titled this sculpture โ€œWater Dropletsโ€ based on the idea of Transformation. Water is transformative, it flows and changes shape continuously. This is my metaphor for life, and why I keep returning to the subject of water so many times in my 40-year career; much like droplets of water, we grow, change, ebb and flow throughout the life cycle.

I worked on the idea of combining epoxy, a substrate that can be installed in a heavy traffic area, with abaca, a natural fiber that allows the pigment to swim in the liquid epoxy as it searches for its ultimate shape and form, for four + years. After many failures, or โ€œ2000 ways how not to make an epoxy and abaca sculpture,โ€ I discovered a process that works. I like to think the Philosopher, Nietzsche would appreciate how I was able to transcend the limitations of these diverse media and create something quite new as a result.
