As an artist and art history professor, I have long admired the Romantic artist JMW Turner. JMW Turner’s Slave Ship with its boiling water and death-defying waves is just awe-inspiring to me. The way he makes a yellow sun appear angry and how the ship is tossing in the wind is one of my favorite moments in art history.
I recently visited Turner’s masterful work in the MFA and was so inspired by it that I incorporated his palette and brushstroke into my seascape painting.
Given his influence on my painting, in all fairness, I had to title the painting after Turner himself.
