FIRST PLACE AWARD. 623 artists/39 countries.
I almost didn’t apply for this contest. I’ve been an artist for over 45 years and rarely apply for competitions. It’s costly and rare to get even a mention, let alone FIRST PLACE and a cash award.
For this competition, the odds weren’t great. I was competing against 623 artists from 39 countries.
Here’s to perseverance. Here’s to taking a risk. Here’s to stating power. I did mention the 45 years, didn’t I?
And here’s to my Corcoran High School art teacher, Nancy Peck, who showed me how to draw in one-point perspective. Little did I know that was the start of something big.

Summer’s End is a commissioned painting of acdahlia garden that reminded the collector of picking flowers with her children to bring to her mother. Read the story behind the painting.
The painting of dahlia blooms creates the focal point for this room. The scale of the flowers and close-up composition create the “wow factor” upon entering the room. The painting calls your attention with its bright colors and textured surface.
I loved working with the collector to create this special painting that reminded her of her mother, and the times she spent with her children creating bouquets of freshly picked dahlias.
