| Dear Meg, “I want to bring the outdoors inside,to feel the seasons all around me.“-Collector- With these marching orders I set to work on a subject I don’t often work from: trees. Anyone whose ever painted trees knows it can be a challenging exercise given their limited palette, ungainly proportions, and difficulty pairing with other objects. To address these challenges, I focused on the light that surrounds the trees, capturing them at different times of day and seasons of the year. The summer sun casts its light onto the painting on the left; the morning sun in early spring in the middle painting has a spiritual glow to it, and the painting on the right features a September evening after a stormy day when the sky was bursting with purple, pink, and blue light. The three paintings were chosen from the 15 small studies I made throughout the commission process. They are currently in a museum exhibition in Silkeborg Bad, Denmark. Can you find the three paintings among the Fifteen Trees s |
